The narrative of the c-book ‘The metropontikas’ refers to a fantastic city that is inhabited by geometric figures and solids. This c-book aims at provoking innovative learning trajectories and practices capitalising upon the representations and functionalities available in the c-book technology (half-baked logo code, data, kinesthetic control of variables, interlinked representations, simulations, interactivity etc.) The knowledge to be approached is embedded in the various widget instances and the students can discover it through exploration and experimentation.
In particular it aims for students to:
- Analyse characteristics and properties of two- and three- dimensional geometric shapes and develop mathematical arguments about geometric relationships.
- Recognize and apply geometric ideas – such as length, perimeter and volume - in everyday life problems.
- Construct mathematical objects, formulate and test conjectures, and draw conclusions.
