The c-book unit has been designed by a team of Secondary School teacher, Education and Mathematics researchers, based in questions about the geometry of the Earth. It may be understood as a second part of the c-unit “The horizon” and it is addressed to 15-16 years-old students.
In this c-book unit we study how calculations about distance and other geometrical questions must be done when working on a spherical surface. The structure is organised in one main question about the trajectory of flights (phase 1 is devoted to this question), and in the second phase several partial questions about phenomena on the Earth, in which Spherical (and Elliptical) shape play a main role, are stated. Trigonometry becomes an essential tool in the second part of the c-unit.
